So I discovered that there are so many holidays in India. They have holiday for everything. Indians enjoy their holidays and so do I. Beside holidays and important events or celebrations, India has lot of religious rituals and customs. What took me by surprise is that an Indian wife performs many ceremonies and rituals for the long life of her husband. Occasionally she will fast and pray early in the morning during sunrise, climb the stairs of a temple with bare foot, wrap cotton threads around a Bunyan tree, etc. All these for her husband's long life. Now you might expect her husband to do the same or something similar for his wife, right! Yeah right! Nothing like that happens. A husband is exempted from any kind of ritual. They don't have to reciprocate any gestures or rituals towards his wife. There is no obligation, it is all one way. Husbands are like gods. in India the locals say that husbands is an avatar of gods.
Meanwhile a Indian teenager is forced to marry a stray dog in a remote village.
Mangli Munda, 18, from a remote village in eastern India, was told by village elders to wed baffled pooch Sheru. A teenager married a DOG during a lavish Indian wedding in front of at least 70 guests.
Unhappy Mangli Munda, 18, from a remote part of eastern India, was told by village elders that marrying the confused canine would ward off an evil spell.
A
local guru told her parents the teenager possessed ill-luck and that
marrying a man would bring destruction to the family and her
community. The baffled dog, Sheru, was brought to the wedding in a chauffeur driven car and welcomed by revellers.
Mangli, who has not been to school, said she was not happy to wed a dog, but insisted that it will help change her fortunes.
The hesitant bride said: "I am marrying a dog because the village elders believe that my evil spell will be passed on to the dog.
"After that is done, the man I will marry will have a long life."
According to the village's customs, the marriage will not affect
Mangli’s life, and she will be free to marry again later without
divorcing the dog.
"My villagers say that many girls like me have
followed this ritual and they have gotten rid of their evil spells and
are living happy lives now," said Mangli.
Have you wondered how many toilets have been constructed in India?
Toilets are a prerequisite for clean, healthy households and community living environments, particularly in dense settlements. They are also vital to safeguard environmental quality more broadly, especially the quality of water resources. The government of India has made very good progress over the last few years. For example, toilet coverage expanded by 20 million toilets in 2011. However, this is not enough. Population growth means that toilet coverage needs to expand at an even greater rate to make a difference.
Statistics say there are 125,726,727 household toilets, 1,375,234 school toilets and 534,931 Anganwadi toilets. These figures though include toilets that are not used and those that are dysfunctional. There is no way to know how many functioning and used toilets there are. However, you can be assured that there are more cell phones than toilets in India.
I found this video on youtube. It is hilarious. I am sure you will enjoy it.
Monsoon
Monsoon season is here in Lucknow, however, this year there has been less rain. Monsoon rainfall this year was the weakest since 2009. So there maybe less crops this year and the rise of veggies will go up. :(. But I am glad when it rains because it cools the temperature here but as always after a heavy rain, the temperature rises. This summer was horribly too hot. This summer was much hotter than last year.
Language
I finished level 9 in language learning. I have another 3 to go. Most likely I will finish this next month in September. Talk about preservation and endurance. However when I finish level 12 than I have to intermediate and than to high.
Health
My health is doing fine. I am drinking a lot of water. I am at a stage where now I hate the taste of water ...lol. Make sure you have a good water filtering system in your home. You will need it. Water here contains lot of unwanted toxins and germs.
Apart from the heat, August was a good month. I excelled in my language study. I had a Friend's friend visit me from Nepal. I made good friend's with him. So if I ever go to Nepal I will visit him.
Anyway. Take care all ... remember to long long and let other live long
Until we meet again
